Marie Schäffer, member of the Brandenburg state parliament for BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN, visited the film and media city of Potsdam-Babelsberg on Thursday, July 11, 2024. Here she explored the MediaTech Hub Potsdam, met startups from the MTH community and was given a tour of the Studio Babelsberg site.
After the arrival and a welcome at the building of the UFA GmbH in Babelsberg, Luise Schröter, Partner & Community Manager of the MTH Potsdam, presented the MediaTech Hub, its projects and the Digital Hub Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). In two presentations, the two founders Markus Hantschmann, CEO and co-founder of ROADIA, an alumni startup from the MTH Accelerator program, and Ramtin Ramin, CEO and founder of DealEngine, presented their respective business models. They also talked about the added value that the MediaTech Hub Accelerator and the MediaTech Hub Space have for startups and the location. This was followed by a meeting with Dr. Daniel Hönow, Head of the Potsdam/Potsdam-Mittelmark RegionalCenter of the IHK Potsdam.
Next stop was a visit to Volucap. Here, Marie Schäffer was given an insight behind the scenes of the volumetric studio, and she learned about the innovative technology. Finally, there was a guided tour of the studio premises and the Art Department of Studio Babelsberg.
In addition to the tour of the site, the visit was also about entering into a dialog with startups and companies and discussing their needs. Urgent concerns included more and easier opportunities to test new technologies, a reduction in bureaucracy, for example when it comes to hiring skilled workers from abroad or changing guidelines, as well as the film funding.
