MediaTech meets Aerospace! A look back at the de:hub Journey

Blick durch eine VR Brille.

On 11 June, as part of the de:hub Journey, we had the opportunity to show why the aerospace industry can benefit from media technology-driven ideas. The De:hub Initiative took us to Dahlewitz to visit industrial heavyweight Rolls-Royce. Taking place alongside ILA 2026, the event allowed MTH Potsdam, together with Digital Hub Industry Bremen and Smart Systems Hub Dresden, to highlight the potential for collaboration between corporates and startups.

Alongside the teams from 2Sync and Volucap, around 30 decision-makers from industry, research and the startup ecosystem joined the de Journey. One of the highlights on site was the visit to the so-called “Cave”, where complex aerospace components are visualised in 3D using VR and developed collaboratively.

Future-focused input came, among others, from 2Sync and Volucap during the Disruption Panel. The discussion also explored how volumetric telepresence and interactive mixed reality production could make training and maintenance in the aerospace industry more efficient. Afterwards, the “stopovers” — a series of open discussion rounds — offered fresh perspectives on what could become possible in this sector through the interplay of startup innovation and industrial resources.

Our takeaway: this journey was one for the books. For us, it was particularly exciting to see how relevant topics such as XR, MR and digital twins have become for industrial production contexts. Thank you to everyone involved and everyone who joined us on the journey!
